was born in a farm in the middle of England. His father called him Lemuel
Gulliver. He studied for three years in Cambridge University. After that he
became an apprentice to a surgeon called Mr. Bates. After finishing his studies,
he worked as a surgeon on a ship called "The Swallow" for three and a
half years.
2 - He got married to a kind woman called Mary Burton. They stayed in London,
but it was not easy to find work. He took another job on a ship for six years so;
he earned good money and learned several languages.
3 - His life changed in 1699 when he got a job on a ship
called the Antelope. After two month on this ship, there was a storm and the
ship sank, but he saved himself by climbing into a lifeboat. All the crew
drowned, but he could swim to the shore of an island.
4 - When he reached the shore he was cold, wet and exhausted so he slept for a
long time. When he got up, he couldn't stand up as he was fastened hard to the
ground. He heard noises and something climbed his body. This thing was a human
who was only 15 cm tall and was carrying a bow and an arrow.
5 - Gulliver tried to know who they were, he found that there were forty of them
around him. When they heard Gulliver's voice, they moved away from him. They
began to shot him with arrows so he decided not to move. The men realized that
he didn't want to escape so they became quiet and confident.
6 - The men began to build a platform for an important man so that he could
talk to Gulliver. The man was wearing important-looking clothes, the man began
to talk, but Gulliver couldn't understand him.
7 - Gulliver tried to give him information about himself as his name and that he
was lost in a storm, but the man couldn't understand, either. As Gulliver was
so thirsty and hungry, he pointed to his mouth to show the man that. They gave
him many baskets of food and containers of water.
8 - After that the king arrived and spoke to Gulliver, they communicated with each
other using hand signs. Gulliver asked him to set him free, but the king
refused and decided to take him to the capital Lilliput on A machine that was
used for carrying huge trees. This machine was pulled by horses.
9- On the way to the capital, they put some medicine in his food to make him
sleep. He only woke up when one of the soldiers put a pole in his nose to see
what would happen. Gulliver sneezed and the man ran away.
10 - When he woke the next morning he found that he was chained to the
gates of the old building. Opposite this building there was a tower where the
king could watch him. During the next days people came from the city to see
him. Some people (six) tried to shoot him with arrows, but the soldiers
arrested them and pushed them towards Gulliver.
11
- The men were afraid when Gulliver picked them up and put five of them in
his pocket and held one of them in his hand, he looked at him and picked a
knife. The little man and the guards looked horrified as they thought he was
going to eat him. Gulliver did not hurt him and let him go.Exercise
